CONCEPT // Illusion explores the phenomenon of optical illusion, visual deception and distorted perception within the framework of aesthetic sustainability.

Illusion is a powerful phenomenon which eludes our minds, makes us wonder, persuade

us to perceive certain patterns in simple structures. The vision was to create an expression rooted in optical illusion and develop principles for structure around the human body.

The collection is created in collaboration with Mark Kenly Domino Tan Studio & Kvadrat Textiles. Inspired by the work of artists Felice Varini and Jeppe Hein, with the primary silhouette reference of Christian Dior’s New Look. I wanted to achieve an expression rooted in tricking the eye through composition and placement of lines on the body. To challenge our perception of the silhouette of the human body, and both create and break down illusions in order to push the balance within the imbalance. Raw edges reveal what’s traditionally inside, while still keeping the references to classical tailoring. Dense and light materials create contrast.

AESTHETIC SUSTAINABILITY //
The collection is made from mono material - in the sense that every garment consists of the same fiber throughout, with only very few trimmings. This facilitates the recycling of material in the future. Aesthetic lifetime is taken into account by creating garments in high quality materials like wools and silks for longevity, as well as the theory of Aesthetic Sustainability by Kristine Harper, creating the symbiosis of the beautiful and the sublime - in short the calm and the chaotic - for longer lasting aesthetics to the eye, in an attempt to create garments that last longer in the wardrobe of the wearer.

The purpose of the collection is reaching a sense of illusion, which is not directly translated, but has a subtlety. Something that makes the viewer contemplate, and reconsider the way we see the world. Also to consider how everything from context and experience changes that view.
