Weinan Pan is a London-based jewellery designer and studio-maker who handcrafts each limited-edition and one-of-a-kind piece in her London studio. Her contemporary art jewellery is appreciated by people attracted to authentic designs which convey a sense of self-awareness, empowerment, and identity.
Pan's jewellery is inspired by her ongoing experiential research of the Nomadic lifestyle under extreme natural conditions and how nomads remain peaceful and happy in spite of such obstacles. Her own Nomadic journey began in Tibet, where she trekked Mt. Everest Base Camp in the Himalayan mountains. She continued her journey in the Alps and the Scottish Highlands. Throughout these periods of intense physical exertion, she reflected on the Nomadic lifestyle which only allows for basic daily necessities to be carried and how the wearing of extravagant family heritage jewellery allows one to create one's identity. Here she found an answer to sustainable happiness and peace: slowing down to look closely and appreciate the nature of things around and inside us.
By nature, sterling silver, which forms the main material of Pan’s jewellery, oxidises and becomes uneven, which she exploits through a series of experimental finishes and textures. Gold accents are incorporated to further contrast with the murky blacks and greys. Firmly believing in environmental and social contribution, Pan uses only recycled silver, gold, and ethically sourced gemstones. Pan's jewellery presents the beauty of unrefined nature. The finishes will continue to change with time and wear and no two pieces are alike.
Weinan Pan graduated from Central Saint Martins MA Design (Jewellery) in 2019. Her Nomadic Princess Project was shortlisted at the 2019 edition of Tiffany & Co. x Outset Studio Makers Prize.
