Knitting or weaving. It immidiately takes one to the soft
and bumpy texture of the material, the memory of their
Grandmother weaving a sweater, and singular threads
wrapping each other to give shape
to a something new.
Hand-done bamboo weaving merges with cutting-edge
lighting technology to give form to a light-weight portable
lamp that can be carried with the user wherever they go.
The shape of the lamp is informed by the material properties
of bamboo and basketry weaving techniques. The handle,
made-in cane adds stability and flexibility to the lamp.
The Binnai Lamp is inspired by the traditionality of India,
reinterpreted to fit our daily needs in a contemporary
setting.
