Glamourning. Notes on Glamour

Glamourning. Notes on Glamour takes references from my Glamourning. Notes on Glamour is an analysis of glamour and practicality. It wants to comment on how
glamour should be understood nowadays; taking into consideration the social and political changes that
we have had in society since the fifties

...

– the golden age of couture per se. In addition to that, I and
Balenciaga share the same cultural heritage, since we both have been born and raised in the Basque
Country. To build this narrative, I have taken references from the Basque working class (farmers and
fisher people especially) and its cultural identities – all of this mixed with visual and philosophical
references from the Anarchitecture movement from the 70s throughout the whole process.
This outfit is an evolution of the Balenciaga black cocktail dress from 1957 - as this project is part of the
CBM Transmissions Competition. The look follows a more complex gown, which will decompose into
three different outfits. It consists of two vests/jackets, three skirts and two ruffled pieces - jacket-kimono.
All the pieces from this project have been built using the same calico that I used for building the replica –
15 meters. This will be one of the pillars for the process since it aims to question the number of resources
used in couture. Is it still glamorous? Is it more practical?
