Döppel Studio
Eyes on Talents member, Döppel Studio, presents the Néophore project, on show at ToolsGalerie in Paris until January 11. The duo draws inspiration from the shapes of ancient jars and amphorae, reinterpreting them to create light-bearing vessels through the use of terracotta and a specialised enamel. The light source becomes the essence of the reflection: like a material to be transported, it shapes the form of the vessel, inspiring new uses and new objects. This work of contrast between light and terracotta led Döppel Studio to collaborate with Aliénor Martineau from Alma Mater, a ceramicist specialising in natural mineral-based glazes, to create a custom enamel responsive to luminosity.
Since its inception, Paris-based design duo Döppel Studio, founded by Lionel Dinis Salazar and Jonathan Omar, has explored the object as a piece imbued with multiple meanings, bringing an imagined past to new sensory experiences. Graduates of the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and HEAR in Strasbourg, they joined forces in 2016 to develop a shared vision driven by their interest in objects, their layered meanings and thus their potential reinterpretations.
