Lifetime Achievement Award

Kjetil Trædal Thorsen, cofounder of global architecture and design firm Snøhetta, has been named the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award 2024. Since cofounding Snøhetta in 1989, Kjetil Trædal Thorsen has been behind the firm’s holistic transdisciplinary approach, combining architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, product design, graphic and digital design to create spaces truly in conversation with their surroundings. A leader in energy-positive architecture, Thorsen and Snøhetta have been talking about – and acting on – the need to reduce the built environment’s impact on the natural one long before many others.

"Julian Charrière and Cecilia Vicuña are two extraordinary artists who have dedicated their careers–and lives–to illuminating the connections between environmental degradation and cultural memory. Alexandra Catière

Prix Camera Clara

Alexandra Catière is the winner of the Prix Camera Clara 2024 awarded for a large format camera series. Her borderless career bears witness to her desire to reach for the universal. From the former Soviet Union to France and the United States, she makes timelessness one of the major aspects of her work. Her images are those of the sensations and atmospheres she succeeds in capturing. Her winning series, Le souffle de l’être [The breath of being], brings together recent images with those from her beginnings 25 years ago. With their poetic sensitivity, the images presented embody the possibility of an elsewhere, gracefully inviting us to return to ourselves.

Rosana Paulino

MUNCH Award

The MUNCH Award was awarded for the first time to Rosana Paulino (b.1967), honouring both the artist and one of the leading voices of Black feminism and the struggle of Afro-Brazilian communities. "Rosana Paulino has contributed to some of the most important conversations about art, histories and society in Brazil and beyond. Over the course of several decades, she has radically committed her artistic practice to unpacking the violent histories and continuities of gender and race. She has created an immensely broad and poetic oeuvre of installations, drawings, artist’s books and videos. Through her teaching practice, Paulino has continuously been engaged in an intergenerational dialogue," said the jury in a statement.

Ashfika Rahman

Future Generation Art Prize

Ukraine's PinChukArtCentre has announced Bangladeshi artist Ashfika Rahman the winner of the seventh Future Generation Art Prize. Her winning work, Behula and a Thousand Tales (2024) uses photography, prints, text and sculpture to examine the role of women in society. The work is an evolution of বেহুলা আজকাল [Behula These Days] (2022–2023), which includes testimonies of violence against women living by the riverbank. Often working with communities, Rahman articulates stories that have been historically silenced, not only in Bangladesh, where Rahman is based, but also globally. Drawing inspiration from territories that have been divided and renegotiated by geopolitical powers, Rahman’s work demonstrates a commitment and focus on the ideals of community building and repair in the face of collective trauma.
