Marine Lanier

Eyes on Talents member, Marine Lanier, is presenting Le Jardin d’Hannibal [Hannibal's Garden], at the Jardin d’été in Arles, as part of Les Rencontres d’Arles. Her work focuses on one place, the Jardin du Lautaret, which is unusual in that it is a high-altitude garden containing a unique conservatory of Alpine flora from all over the world. Perched at an altitude of 2,100 m, facing the glaciers of the Meije, it is the highest altitude garden in Europe. Here, an operation is being carried out to bring down all the plants from one Alpine level to see how they will behave when the climate warms up by 2 to 3 degrees. In a phantasmagorical vision, Marine Lanier takes us on this experiment, among scientists, botanists and gardeners, through what can be seen as a bastion of resistance in our contemporary world faced with climate change.
Marine Lanier is a French photographer. After studying geography, literature and cinema, she graduated from the École nationale supérieure de la photographie Arles in 2007. Her project Le Jardin d'Hannibal is part of the major photojournalism commission, Radiososcopie de la France, an initiative of the Ministry of Culture, led by the BNF.
