Polly Tootal

Eyes on Talents member, Polly Tootal, was awarded the PhMuseum 2023 Women Photographers Grant 3rd Prize for her series London Burning at the end of last year. On 19 July 2022, the day of a record-breaking heat peak in London, Polly Tootal imaged the climate crisis in a striking way. Adding to the dozen fires that had ignited across city that day, she captured the powerless inhabitants of a small community in East London, left witnessing the burning of their neighborhoods. Observing the unfolding events from their perspective the series comments on the intersection of class and the environment. "London Burning invites us to confront society’s fragility and to acknowledge the pressing need for radical change, resilience, and the necessity of a collective response to safeguard our future in the face of an increasingly unpredictable climate." explains Polly Tootal.
Polly Tootal is a British photographer based in the U.K. Her work focuses on liminal zones, the outskirts of cities where urban and infrastructure meet, highlighting the chaos and control that power forces upon populations and the environment.
