Sara Bastai

Eyes on Talents member, Sara Bastai presented RAM_4.0 last September at the PhMuseum Lab in Bologna, thanks to the PhMuseum Women Photographers Grant. Curious about how AI can shape our memories, Sara Bastai submitted hundreds of photos stored in her smartphone to an algorithm that analysed and classified them. The captions generated by the machine inspired her to recreate these photos, which would otherwise have been lost in her phone. In this collaborative project with AI, she reflects on mass production and image overload, and shows us how an AI system might think, raising questions about privacy and the representation of reality based on a certain set of data.
Sara Bastai is a multidisciplinary artist who lives between Porto and Lausanne, where she works on both personal and commissioned projects, integrating photography, graphic design and art direction. Her research focuses on the creation of visual narratives and conceptual projects that explore the themes of memory, digital archives, technology and human behaviour.
