Douglas Mandry
Eyes on Talents member, Douglas Mandry, exhibits his newest series Retardant Panels, alongside others, in a solo exhibition until December 2 at Bildhalle gallery in Amsterdam. Titled The Wind from Nowhere, in homage to the 1961 science fiction novel by J.G. Ballard, the exhibition revolves around the issues of climate change and the relationship between man and nature. The coexistence of industrial development and natural ecosystems has changed our perception of the idea of nature. In a critical, yet poetic approach, the artist invites us to reflect on the possible intertwining of loss and the desire for control that defines our modern society.
Douglas Mandry is an artist based in Zurich. Working mainly with photography, his practice has developed in different mediums, building a constant dialogue with what surrounds him. His works allow him to examine notions of tangibility and permanence through the use of physical materials and printing methods. For him, the artist is rather an agent or vector, co-creating with what shapes and materials are giving themselves.
