Botter

Grand Prize

Self-styled "Caribbean couture" brand Botter spent lockdown establishing a coral nursery off the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao. Herrebrugh and Botter, who were also artistic directors of Nina Ricci until earlier this year, tap into their roots, Curaçao and the Dominican Republic, for their gender-fluid clothing rooted in Caribbean culture. Visibly stunned, the Dutch duo accepted the Grand Prize with a promise to pour the resources into equally innovative sustainable projects (Botter has already pledged to allocate a percentage of profits to the management of the Curaçao coral farm).

Author Book Award

Strike, Strajk is a visual record of the protests that began across Poland on October 22, 2020, and which persisted in various forms over the ensuing months. Desiderea Nuncia

by SMITH, Lucien Raphmaj & Diplomates

Photo-Text Book Award

Desiderea Nuncia (the messenger of desideration) brings together the photographs of SMITH, the texts of Lucien Raphmaj and the micro-architecture plans of Diplomates, like several knowledges and several ways of materializing the phenomena of desideration. Designating a humanity in search of a new pact with its original cosmos, Désideration plays on its troubled etymology, between the lost link to the stars (de-sidera) and the incandescent desire (desiderium) for their return in the face of the disaster of a world darkened sense and an atrophied cosmic imagination. Desiderea Nuncia takes us through mindmaps, for a sub-lunar journey, a reverie, a ritual of reconciliation with your cosmic destiny.

Abbas Zahedi

Frieze Artist Award

Frieze has named Abbas Zahedi as the winner of the 2022 Frieze Artist Award, realized in partnership with Forma for the fourth consecutive year. Established in 2013, the award provides an emerging artist with the platform to debut an ambitious new commission on the occasion of Frieze London. Titled Waiting With {Sonic Support}, the work can be seen as a conflation of two particular sites: a public waiting area and a public support space, the commission builds upon Zahedi’s long-standing interest in borders, thresholds and how things can move within systems or networks.

Reiffers Art Initiatives Mentorship

Each year, Reiffers Art Initiatives invites a major figure of the contemporary art world to become the mentor of an emerging artist of the French scene. This year mentor, Kehinde Wiley, is the first African-American artist to have painted the official portrait of an American president (Barack Obama in 2018) and has established himself as one of the major figures in contemporary art with his hyper-realistic and colorful canvases. As mentor he chose to support, Alexandre Diop, a French-Senegalese artist. Using everyday objects such as books, photographs, metal and wood, as well as elements such as animal hair, fire and rust, Alexandre Diop expresses sympathy for the traditions of the Arte Povera movement.
