Moving from Mexico to Iceland at the age of ten had a big impact on me. I could dress differently and behave differently than I was used to in a strict society. I experienced tension and various questions regarding travel, values and faith. But what would it have been like
if I hadn't been so influenced by this well-known female figure, the Virgin Mary? A symbol of purity and modesty. The line is a feminist statement, it finally gives Maria complete authority over her own body. This freedom is underlined by the use of different motifs where the body of Mary can be seen and is drawn from the rich symbolism of the Catholic Church in the design of the print.
