THALASSOPHOBIA

This project started from the curiosity of the reason to my biggest fear of all time, the sea. I was eager to discover what triggers our fears, what boundaries they set for us, and what boxes they close us in.
I wanted to find the fears that most interfere with having a normal life to try and dissect

...

them to understand more.
One of those fears was agoraphobic, agoraphobic is the fear of public places, our very ordinary day-to-day actions such as going to work, to the mall, to the supermarket, or even just walking down the street become a challenge for them, something they have to face and most of them choose not to. they close up to the world step by step they forbid themselves of places, people and become locked not just in their homes but in their minds.
Panic and anxiety attacks are at the core of the fear, they’re afraid that by stepping out of their safe place, their home they put themselves at the risk of having an attack while being in public, embarrassed, alone, exposed, and fragile.
At the end of the day a person has to decide- do I face myself? Or do I bury it so deep down I forget I had another option?
When I started translating those thoughts into fashion I got inspired by the DNA of denim, what makes it what it is, the rivets, buttons, and so on. I wanted to shield the body with them while still allowing some exposure of the body.
