Years of collecting and sourcing materials has taught me the lost potential of post-consumer-waste. Inspiration reveals itself when I search the local secondhand market, and the dumpster behind my house.
My art practice developed from reassessing/recycling this discarded value into my art and fashi
on and became a personal agenda. To reverse overconsumption through dialogue with what has already been designed and manufactured—but also left behind.
The following is a presentation of my graduate collection titled Grandmother of cats – dressed drunk, a collection about compulsive hoarding and non-judgmental material value.
This collection is a culmination of my years of fashion studies, and of curating material collections which lead to the core of my design rational: Sustainable materiality.
My hope is to share the pedagogic aspect of recycling fashions that already exist. Fulfilling new potentials begins in playing with what we find and have.
