Sophie Delaporte

Eyes on Talents member, Sophie Delaporte, is exhibiting her series Fragile Landscapes at the Galerie VOX as part of Le Festival OFF Arles programme. In 2019, Fragile Landscapes was one of the winning series of the first edition of the Grand Prix Photography & Sustainability – an award created by Eyes on Talents and Paris Good Fashion. In the series, Sophie Delaporte questions the limits of our supposed omnipotence in the face of nature and highlights the fragility of our relationship with our environment. Large, colourful forms, evoking human or animal silhouettes, stand out against the ocean, emerge from the landscape, or dissolve into it, hovering between appearance and disappearance. Yellow, blue, red, shifting, breaking out of the picture’s frame – these forms reflect our ambivalent relationship with nature: a fragile relationship, torn by conflicting forces, in which nature appears by turns vulnerable and threatening. A work that captures our attention to the point of near abstraction, and highlights Sophie Delaporte's talent for ambiguity in visual storytelling.
