Laurence Kubski
Eyes on Talents member, photographer Laurence Kubski, exhibited her project Sauvages [Wild] at Les Rencontres d’Arles 2025. Monitored, controlled, observed, counted, hunted or protected, wildlife is under human pressure. For a year, Laurence Kubski documented the interactions that punctuate the cohabitation of humans and wild animals in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland, exploring local practices to develop a broader perspective. Throughout the seasons, the photographer witnessed bats being counted in the vicinity of caves, birds being ringed during their migration, drones flying over meadows on mowing days in order to spot fawns hidden by their mothers... By mixing documentary images and staged scenes, Laurence Kubski asks: does the wild still exist?
Laurence Kubski is a Swiss photographer born in 1986. Her work focuses on the interaction between humans and animals in different cultures. Sauvages was co-edited last year by Éditions Textuel and Fribourg's Cantonal and University Library.
