Coming back home after so many years deployed, I found my community changed by gentrification. Landmarks of blackness swept away in the name of progress and my tight knit community converted into a diaspora. As I reconstitute who I am from the parts of who I was, I look at the things I previously used to define myself and try to make something new.

Just as a memory has gaps, so do my images.
what is the point of sustainability and progress if it comes at the cost of the local culture and indigenous people who were there before.
To gentrify means; "to make more refined, polite, or respectable." By that definition alone does that mean what came before was Savage, rude and vulgar?
My work explores place and space in a deeper context; while hijacking the viewers' developing punctum (a term coined by Roland Barthes) and creates a narrative while simultaneously directing the conversation into something new and multifaceted level.
