Subrealism is a project that keep exploring the in-between - dialectical coexistence of the simulated reality and the material world. Launching a meaningless improvisation at the boundary of existence is the major task for proving authenticity of human spirit. When aimed to isolate substances tempor
arily that from the purpose of behaviour, mashing up with human body, in addition, crushing into the space, then things will be found as new opportunities and appreciations for existing.
Chair, bottle opener, spoon, toothbrush and eye drops are the five chosen subjects for development. What I am doing in this project is to create the new versions of the daily use but at the same time keep jumping back to the actual reality by exacting in reproducing the details of the original items, which gives the whole collection with the feeling of future nostalgia. What make things real is the question that keeps stimulating me during the design process. Familiarity, functionality, incident, indication and identification are the answers I found by observing the existing objects which have been applied to my design detail.
Collection001 is the chair that consists of the transformed second-hand chair and the human body. The wearer can half sit in it to become the chair itself in the very performative way. The undercoat gray colour provides the base of unlimited potential to blend into the environment. The chair also come with a tag of the conversion instruction which is actually practical that define the lapseat chair as a category of chair.
I want to remind people not to immerse themselves in the numb illusion and recreation, but to break the convention as a way to constantly verify their real existence.
