THE UNHCR JORDAN SERIES
UNHCR avr.. 2025 - avr.. 2025
Jordanie

In the vast desert of northern Jordan, Azraq Refugee Camp has become home to thousands of Syrians displaced by war. Established in 2014, the camp was built not with tents, but with prefabricated shelters—sturdy, simple homes meant to offer safety and stability in uncertain times.
This photo series, c

reated in collaboration with UNHCR, captures moments of everyday life within these homes. Beyond the headlines and numbers are families, traditions, and dreams—fragments of humanity that continue to shine despite the hardship. These images are a glimpse into the resilience, strength, and quiet dignity of the people of Azraq.

tions, including those for malaria, tetanus, diphtheria, HPV, and COVID-19. By prioritizing these efforts, the initiative aims to reduce mortality and morbidity rates in vulnerable populations. Funded by USAID through UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) implements the project across seven of Sierra Leone’s 16 districts: Bo, Bonthe, Kailahun, Kenema, Kono, Moyamba, and Pujehun.

Initially launched in 2021 as an emergency response to support the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations, the project was originally funded by ECHO. Since then, it has undergone two subsequent phases with funding from USAID, shifting its focus to integrate routine childhood and adolescent vaccinations into its campaigns. This approach promotes awareness, increases vaccination uptake, and strengthens the Ministry of Health’s goal of immunisation.

In collaboration with UNHCR Zambia / A SAFE HOME IN UNFAMILIAR LANDS!

Mantapala Refugee Camp in Zambia is a testament to both the challenges and the resilience of displaced populations. With over 17,000 refugees from DRC seeking safety and shelter, the camp serves as a lifeline for those fleeing the

conflict in the east of DRC.

Despite limited resources, the camp provides essential services to its residents, including access to clean water, healthcare, and education. Approximately 6,500 children have the opportunity to attend school, offering hope for a brighter future amidst uncertainty.

Yet, challenges persist. Many families continue to face food insecurity, while others struggle to access adequate housing and sanitation facilities. The international community’s support remains crucial in ensuring the well-being and rights of all those residing in Mantapala Refugee Camp.

Despite these hardshipd, their resilience, courage, and determination shine through as they strive to create a new home and a sense of belonging in unfamiliar lands.
