Central Saint Martins, Fashion Design with Knitwear, graduate collection 2022.
'No Longer Human' explores Beth world and how they copes with being disabled in an inaccessible world, and the resulting trauma. To escape their pain they choose to delve into virtual and augmented worlds. As a result t
he barriers between worlds become blurred; they value my experiences across all reality’s equally. Resulting in a collection that shows their yearning to protect both my mind and body.
The armoured, recycled merchandise elements shows how Beth repurpose the things around me to protect themself from harm. It also symbolises how they mask their pain and the less socially accepted elements of my disability to escape the ableism they face.
The collection is named in honour of one of Beth’s favourite books, No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai.
