The demolition of the false ceilings revealed cherubs and moldings typical of the Second Empire style. After researching the building and the neighborhood, Sébastien Caron was able to establish a link between this apartment, with its atypical structure, and the former and forgotten "À la Paix" depart
ment stores that occupied the neighborhood. Furthermore, it also revealed that this one had inspired Emile Zole for his novel Au Bonheur des Dames...
The story of this place is unique and deserved to be revealed. I decided to bring the past and the present to life in the same place, first by restoring and highlighting the glorious past of this place, as it could have been. The layer of the present time is expressed by the addition of the rooms layout and partitioning walls with a contemporary design that gives the impression that these partitions stop before the molded ceiling.
