Born in San Diego, California but raised in Taoyuan, Taiwan, Claudia ZH Tan’s interest in fashion was sparked by a wedding dress collection found in a fashion magazine — she fell in love with the idea of how apparel could bring happiness to people’s faces.
Tan studied business for her first two yea
rs in college before moving to San Francisco to study fashion at the Academy of Art University, where she earned her BFA in Fashion Design. Her graduate collection is titled Cruel Intentions and seeks to deliver a message related to current social issues and natural crises.
“I don’t want to just design for the sake of design,” she says.

Claudia and Pamela’s graduation collection was selected to present at the 2019 showcase in New York City to highlight her work as a womenswear designer coming into the i
ndustry. Her work is also represented through a digital platform through the CFDA website.
