Ottolinger’s punk approach to couture tailoring is a sign of confidence that trumps the glamour of a sleek silhouette any day.
The label’s second collection SS17 (shown in New York earlier this year as part of VFILES’s ready-to-wear presentation) saw holes blow-torched into delicately crafted cotton
shirts and denim pants. Dresses and sweaters hung in raw-edged shreds from the models’ bodies.
The collection underlined Ottolinger’s unorthodox, and refreshing, notion of sex appeal: while chaps and said burn holes expose plenty of their wearer’s skin, the sex of the design lies in its ignorance of what is considered flattering to our physique. Embracing a certain messiness, a controlled fire, the label makes clothes for a modern woman, playfully navigating life as she sees fit.”
