The Shapes of Square and Round
Chinese is a totally different language from alphabetic one. A lot of characters are formed with the actual shapes of the objects they imply. Square 方 and round 圓 are exactly this type. Square culturally means force and strength, even rules and stableness. On the
contrary, circle means gentleness and softness and as well as the nice attitude dealing with people. Thus, square and round have existed in Feng Shui and been used in daily-life objects a lot. The combination of square and round is so routed that people almost cannot realise the meanings behind it. And it is so common that people do not sense the beauty of it.
The Message
In this project, by presenting the sensation of Chinese characters, highlighting the shapes, and celebrating the philosophy of square and round, I want to convey the zen atmosphere to the viewers, and to promote and appreciate the calm and serene life style.
