Tamara Orjola

Eyes on Talents member, Tamara Orjola, graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2016. Her project Forest Wool explores the potential of pine needles as a material for making furniture and textiles. Pines are the main source of timber in the world, but the tree is not limited to wood: pine needles make up 20 to 30 percent of its mass. With standard manufacturing techniques they can be made into textiles, composites and paper. The process also makes it possible to extract and use essential oils and dyes. Tamara Orjola's project was exhibited this year at The Unknown Mine Zone exhibition at Nieuw Dakota in Amsterdam, a reflection on the finiteness of raw materials and access to viable alternatives.
