Julie Richoz
Eyes on Talents member Julie Richoz presents Fabric, a solo exhibition at the contemporary design gallery signé in Paris, until 16 November. With a collection of lamps handmade in her Paris workshop, the designer explores the idea of a simple, elegant gesture and an economy of means: a wooden base and three rods supporting a drape of fabric that conceals a light bulb. An artisanal exploration that reflects an evolution towards a more intimate scale. In a scenography based on the same economy of means, the cardboard plinths presenting the collection are the actual boxes for each lamp, handmade by the designer and her team. The drape, central element of the exhibition, suggests the idea of embracing a form that cannot be fully controlled, placed and then brought to life by a breeze or a presence.
Swiss-French designer Julie Richoz set up her eponymous design studio in Paris in 2015, through which she enjoys exploring with curiosity and sensibility the development of her own language through objects. From unique pieces to industrial scale, she is fascinated by the know-how, passion and precision involved in handling materials.
