Julien Gorrias

Eyes on Talents member, Julien Gorrias, founder of Carbone14.studio, designed La chaise qui cache la forêt (The chair that hides the forest), a chair that is part of a militant positive design approach: offering everyday furniture whose creation and degradation would have no impact on the environment and would even be able to regenerate it. In the legs of the chair hide seeds of ash, lime and oak trees. Over the course of the rains, the wooden planks degrade, separate and allow the seeds to germinate. With its curvatures on the backrests and legs that sublimate the wood, the chair is made from materials that can return to the earth without harming the environment.
Julien Gorrias founded Carbone14.studio in 2020. The designer coined the term "conception positive" (positive design) to describe a design approach that values an object's wear, longevity and low carbon impact.
