Materia Madura: Mortar + Pestle was designed to grind spices. The base of the mortar is composed of Materia Madura (an innovative material created out of local plantain and coffee waste) and oak wood. The oak used for the top part of the mortar originated from the trunk of a tree that was destroyed b
y Hurricane María. It is meant to be removable in order to facilitate cleaning the mortar after use. River stones that have been slowly eroded over time are carefully selected as ergonomic pestles for the mortar.
