Autumn / Winter 2017 collection by THEO VII STUDIO was inspired by our research about ‘Shamans’. In short, shaman is a person regarded as a healer. They have access to, and influence in the world of good or evil spirits. They practice divination and healing to help people around them. Our curiosity w
as at peak from the very first glance, there were many things that intrigued us. Their supernatural world, their clothes, accessories and head-wear, their ritual and rich cultural histories are one of a kind. We want to explore their stories and create a series of garments from this. There were so many interesting elements from their robes. This is because, every ritual they performed and each places they travel, they leave marks on their robes to celebrate their wealth in knowledge and experience. Each Shaman's robe tell a different story depending on their background. They worship and adore all living things and animals. They are adored with fabrics and animal skin, fur, skulls, horns, and feathers. They believe these elements gives them power and help them enter the realm of another world. In this collection, our exploration path is to study the elements that was on Shaman’s clothes, many version of fringe could be seen on Shaman’s robe. They are long and colorful. Each strip represents the places they have traveled to in the world. We would like to reconstruct the idea of
a fringe in many ways. Secondly, they have mirrors and many delicate silver accessories on their robe as well. We would like to express this detail by using reflective sequins and beading technique to create a rich and 3D effect on our garments. This is to portray the richness and embellished look on the Shaman’s robe. We would also like to play with patchwork this season as it could be seen as a technique used by the Shaman to create their robe from animal skin. This is because their robe is so precious that mending and adding becomes part of the culture. The color range we are using this season are rich and colorful at the same time. It will be warm and powerful colors for Autumn and heavier, darker and cooler colors will follow through winter. There will also be highlights or bright colors to give it a punch to complete the whole look.
