Meryl Prendergast is an artist that works at the intersection of textiles and photography to make art that sparks change. Prendergast holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with Minors in Photojournalism and Global Fashion Studies at Northeastern University. Prendergast is, at her core, a storyteller. S
he seeks to use textile and photographic work to make contemporary issues like climate change more understandable and potent. Her process begins with photography, oftentimes leading to the photographs being used to create a textile print or cyanotype. She is fascinated by how a material can be manipulated to tell a different story, and loves the magic process of making things slow by hand.
My focus will be learning loom work and natural dyeing using the tools present at the Icelandic Textile Center to create textile experimentations inspired by the intense landscapes of Iceland.
