Bachelor project - "Thank You so Much!"
This collection is based on a fictional Diva, who started off finishing next to last in a beauty pageant, but got scouted and flown to Hollywood in order to pursue acting. After a few smaller roles she was offered a lead in a now iconic move, and her career to
ok off. From her early success as an actor, she had the opportunity to realize her lifelong dream of being a world famous singer. For the last couple of years, she has been on a never ending tour around the world. This collection shows what she wore when traveling from the Mediterranean and across the Alps.
The era and time is ambiguous in the collection, it is traveling between the past, the present and periods that never have happened. The inspiration is mainly based on Old Hollywood-glamor, Mae West, Josephine Baker, Marlene Dietrich to name a few. The film creator Federico Fellini and actor Anita Ekberg also play a big part, mixed with Bob Mackie's Disco Cher, and Tina Turner. In order to keep the time period unclear (or clearly non-real) the research also consisted of pictures of what people in the 1920’s thought the future would look like.
As a designer it was important for me to tell the collection almost like the plot of a movie, I want to create an entire universe, but, it is also important for me that the collection can be seen as just a group of beautiful garments. You should not be required to know the full story in order to know that you like what you see.
Embroidery, and other textile techniques play a huge part in my creative process. I use thread and fabric to build pictures onto the garments I create, mostly to be able to describe the world and setting of the story I try to tell. This collection does not only portrait a fictional character but also an entire fictional reality. I have been using embroidery throughout my studies, and it is the one thing I never seem to be able to let go of. For me it is the most fruitful way of describing aesthetics, it gives me a second chance to explain what I mean.
