For our first collection, our coats are inspired by Ainu cultural assimilation and textile know-how. Ainus are First peoples living mainly in the north of Japan. This min
ority is affected by a process of cultural assimilation, an abandonment of its culture for the benefit of another under duress. The Japanese state has cultivated discriminatory practices for years, causing the slow disappearance of its language and religion.
Ainu's culture is known for its emblematic fabric made from vegetable bark fibers and their ceremonial clothes decorated with highly symbolic elaborate embroideries. Our coats Megrez, Mizar, Merak, Dubhe & Alioth are mainly inspired by the structure of their clothes, especially collars and sleeves, and by some details took from Japanese culture.
