Designers' nest

Internalized objectification is a material study that is about bringing together clothing and objects.
By treating non-textile materials like textiles, we explore the borderland between different areas of design.
The point of departure for the project is an interest in areas of design more than just

fashion, both materially and visually. We want to shift the fashion context in which we find ourselves in order to enrich it by
adding non-textile materials and new design elements, and by exploring what a multi-material practice might look like.

The non-textile materials we chose to use in the collection are clay, wood and tin. We have created abstract objects that have been allowed to provide the basis for how the garments are designed, and we also used clay in our fabric draping, developing a technique for how sculpted forms can be translated into fabric.

One hope we have for the collection is that it can provide us space to experiment with how our work might find a place in multiple contexts simultaneously and be experienced as both clothes to wear and objects to exhibit.

Description of the selected looks:
LOOK 1: is a hand-painted leather suit with draped ”snakes” winding down the sleeves and legs. The snakes are first draped in clay and then translated into fabric. We work with this technique to find shapes that would have been difficult to create straight from the head or with ordinary pattern making.

The bag is sculptured in clay, with a molded tin handle.

LOOK 2: is a printed set in silk. Sculptured and painted objects in clay are used as trimmings to hold the pieces together, and they have also been the basis for the cuttings of the garment.

The accessories in this look is made of wet-shaped and lacquered wood.

LOOK 3: is a hand-knitted dress in different kinds of yarn. This piece is also designed with objects holding it together, combined with built up shape in the shoulders.

The bag is made out of leather waste and wires, and the shoes are distorted with a wood sole.

LOOK 4: is a dress sculptured entirely in clay. It’s three different pieces connected together with lacing. It also has a matching headpiece that plays with the vision of a haircut.

LOOK 5: is a printed jersey dress with matching gloves. It has built up shape in the shoulders and uses molded tin objects to connect the pieces together.
