For this project I combined Fashion and microbiology to create materials of the future. I genetically modified competent E-coli to create bacterial dyes that use 431 times less water than synthetic dyes and are colorfast.
When I first started working in the lab a Petri dish size constrain was placed
on me since I had no microbiology background. I began thinking of innovative ways in which I could patch circles together to create garments. I really enjoyed patching fabric to create larger forms and continued experimenting with combining and covering fabric once I was able to dye larger pieces as well.
I experimented with bioplastic and mycelium to find alternative ways of creating accessories and embellishments.
