Throughout the centuries the street has been the Catwalk of the society.

In 18th century the street and stage clothes were similar; grand and colourful - reflecting social position and occupation of the wearer, as a pursuit of social order.

In 19th century it became harder to read a stranger - to

...

place them within a specific social class. You had to look for small clues which would point you in a direction allowing to place one within the society.

Then the age of black clothing and uniformity came. Ready-to-wear garments, which were mass produced, made people anonymous but also gave freedom to dress as the person they want to be. Change it daily, effortlessly crossover from one style to the other. Wear different costume, different mask each day.

The urban setting has always been over-stimulating, the movement of masses, the crowds, the cars, the building - visually overwhelming. The social pressures to fit the role, different dress-codes for different places, occasions and situations. Body became a Mannequin. Driven by the challenges of sustaining the individuality in the urban - mass setting.

And the fashion is the way! The ever changing, ever growing industry - driven by rapidly increasing demand. The fast fashion made it affordable for everyone to satisfy their urges to constantly change oneself, adjust to fit or to stand out, depending on the person, mood or situation.

The amount of clothing produced increases each year, as well as its environmental footprints. The throwaway culture has been fuelling it for too long. In the current climate the change is necessary, it has already started but has to be more radical in order to make the difference on time. The consumption has to change - we need to go back to seeing clothes as Usables rather than things we Use Up and throw away. Becoming more responsible for the choices we make, how we create our image.

In the series I explore the notions of the colours and the movement within an urban landscape. The statement made by the fabrics that the bodies are surrounded with. The visibility of a single form within the mass. Modernised Theatrum Mundi - the audience is not God anymore but The Other.
