ries, they are also considered to wear the most elaborate and largest variety of costumes of all China's ethnic groups.
Focusing on Miao women, they wear tubular skirts, girdle skirts and pleated skirts, they wear distinctive colorfully-embroidered aprons which they believe can be dipped in the water and used to cure their relatives of any illness.
As for the embroideries, figures come from daily life, but they don't simply reflect life: careful observation and experience has taught Miao women how to emphasize outstanding features of the flowers, birds, worms, and fish they make. Common figures include unicorns, dragons, phoenixes, frogs, butterflies, geometric figures and plant figures.
The Miao believe that the more silver adornments a woman wears, and heavier and more valuable they are, the more beautiful a woman looks.
After a research of the typical embroideries that I had the chance to do on the field, I could be able to realize those jacquards and those patterns.
By using various trimmings I could re-create the idea of their traditional clothes, and by using different materials I could realize typical Miao patchworks, where you can see embroidered sections together with tie-dyed silk parts.
The skirts that I designed are both traditional and romantic.
