The starting point was the idea of failure, embracing the mistakes and naivety that comes with being young, joined with a raw aesthetic that reflects my process. Girls who sat at the back of the bus when i went to school, who equally terrified and enthralled me were another reference point, whose devil-may-care attitude is the epitome of youthful posturing. The tension between the chaos and the refined is a concept I constantly return to, as raw as my work can be, there is always a reality to it that gives it context and something people who see it can immediately relate to, whilst having a madness within the textile surfaces to render the familiar as new.
