Mathilde Pellé
Eyes on Talents member, Mathilde Pellé, inaugurated the Fondation d’entreprise Martell’s new exhibition-residency format by sharing and developing her research approach, Soustraire (Subtract). Her exhibition Chemin creux [Hollow way], on view until 29 December, encourages us to take a closer look at the objects our societies offer us and the forms that can be created by subtraction. Mathilde Pellé is pursuing the inexhaustible question that guides her work, her thinking and her relationship with design: "Why is there something rather than less?". Extending her practice of dissecting and removing material from everyday objects, she offers us the opportunity to experience the ruin of domestic environments through subtraction and to re-evaluate our uses by giving a new value to emptiness.
Mathilde Pellé is a French designer who, alongside producing objects, spaces and installations, has been pursuing her Soustraire research project since 2016. Through a varied practice encompassing experiments, workshops, writings, images and studies, she invites us to rethink our relationship with material as well as our lifestyles and consumption patterns, against the exponential growth of goods.
