Eyes on Talents member, Carla Rossi’s series Exquisite Counterfeits examines the phenomenon of ‘selfie museums’, which have become widespread in Seoul since the advent of social media. The series aims to reveal the sublime artificiality of these carefully constructed ‘natural’ environments by deliberately shifting the perspective on the backgrounds. By blurring the boundaries between the digital and physical worlds, Carla Rossi explores the influence of social media on the desires and fantasies of a new generation of users. Exquisite Counterfeits was exhibited last year at Celeste Kunst in Teramo, Italy, accompanied by a limited edition booklet published by Panopticon.
Carla Rossi's work is influenced by the interplay between the cyber and the physical, exploring the emergence of new realities and aesthetics in today's society. Her work explores the online identities of the digital generation, highlighting how mass media and the popular culture of social media shape their fantasies and desires, enabling them to fully design their digital existence.
