Eloi Schultz

Eyes on Talents member, Eloi Schultz's Absentes chairs are currently on show at La Lune gallery in Dijon, and were recently chosen by Batiik Studio to decorate a Parisian interior. We take a look back at this work, produced in 2022 for an exhibition at Chapelle XIV gallery in Paris. Part of a set comprising the Mémoire table, the Epines bench and the Pleine Lune lamp, the Absentes chairs with removable backrests are made from Lebanese cedar using traditional joinery techniques. They are a perfect illustration of the work of Eloi Schultz, for whom wood plays a central role. With an innate sense of the material, the French designer allows it to express itself fully through simple, functional and pure forms.
Eloi Schultz's work is based on his dual training as an architect and cabinet maker, with pieces that fall somewhere between furniture and sculpture. Working between Paris and Marseille, he is currently putting the finishing touches to an apartment-studio in Marseille, where he plans to settle soon. Still designing new furniture and giving courses, 2024 will also see the delivery of a Sessùn boutique in Paris, for which the designer has worked on art direction and furniture design.
