Eyes on Talents member, dach&zephir, presented Machann Pannié, a research and creation project based on the art of basketry, at DS Galerie as part of Paris Design Week 2023. Machann Pannié is the third part of Élòj kréyòl, a research project the studio has been conducting since 2015 on the cultural and creative histories of the French West Indies. At the heart of this effort is the creative (re)appreciation and dissemination of the silenced aspects of Creole culture. This new chapter examines the possibility of creative thinking and shared narratives between the French West Indies and mainland France, through the figure of the basket-maker.
dach&zephir is a Franco-Caribbean design studio founded in 2016 by Florian Dach and Dimitri Zephir, both graduates of the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris. By focusing on the anteriority and historicity of Creole culture, the duo seeks to bring out all its richness.
