My name is Samara Ekua Krantema Addo, founder and Creative Director of EKUAADDO LTD, a pluricultural fabric company that makes ready-to-wear garments using batik, tie-dye, kente weaving and other fabric expressions. I take a lot of creative inspiration from my colourful background which is made up of
the dynamic and vibrant cultural communities of Colombia, Ghana and Jamaica. My journey into the world of fashion began at an early age when, I developed my own unique sense of style as a teenager growing up in Colombia. This unique style combined the rich tapestry of the indigenous ethnic groups of Colombia, the AfroColombian community, the Caribbean and of course Ghana. In recent years, I have had the opportunity of showcasing my brand at the Afro-punk online magazine 2018, Vogue Italia 2019, Accra Fashion Fund show 2019, London Fashion Week sponsored by Creative DNA & British Council and the Sankalp Fashion Show event 2023. I am committed to building a brand that is not only environmentally sustainable but equally responsible to my community and the world as whole. I am also the product of Radford University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design

“When I returned to Ghana, I had to deconstruct myself and sew myself back together,” shared Ekua Addo over the phone. Wakanda may not be real but the fashion and style trends that influenced the breathtaking aesthetic of the film definitely are. African designers always seem to be missing at fashion weeks held in the “West” but that has not stopped African style from growing and evolving.
