DORVAL 01 pendant light
DORVAL is a tribute in lighting to the origins of industrial design. Composed of four aluminium heads with LED panels, this pendant light takes equal inspiration from airport runway lighting and the essential qualities of a chandelier. Equipped with slip-rings, e
ach head can be turned to distribute light in any direction, while the precision of each component keeps the lamp balanced and well-aligned. The central body establishes a vertical reading of the piece, leading from the fixture itself all the way up to the ceiling. This provides a visually seamless integration of the electrical box housing and simultaneously serves its direct technical needs. The wire loop and bottom axis of the lamp create a sense of domestication; the somewhat cute and innocent detail of the free-hanging wire complements an otherwise restrained design language. The soft colour of DORVAL’s aluminum body adds further warmth to the design. This colour directly references the Motobécane AV88 (AKA “La Bleue”), an iconic French motorcycle and popular symbol of the ‘Trentes Glorieuses’ post-war period. The DORVAL’s industrial origins and striking form endows it with the versatility to perform in a wide array of situations: above the dining table, in the living room as ambient light, or even in the office. Ultimately, it’s the colour and composition that touch an ephemeral place in our imaginations, condensing years of history into a powerful and friendly design.
