Layers arose from Mr.&Mr.’s observation of metallic surfaces found in the New York subway system. Layers is a series of vases formed by consecutive layers of paint applied one after the other. This stratification of the layers of paint gives the multi-co
loured vases their random shapes.
Mr.&Mr.’s casual processing of these layered structures expresses their desire to experiment with this chemical but living substance. Over time, Layers becomes a water-tight skin, home to ephemeral and fragile bouquets of flowers.
